This book explores mathematics in a wide variety of applications, ranging from problems in electronics, energy and the environment, to mechanics and mechatronics. The book gathers 81 contributions submitted to the 20th European Conference on Mathematics for Industry, ECMI 2018, which was held in Budapest, Hungary in June 2018. This book should illustrate the impact of collaborations between mathematics and industry. It is both an initiative of and coordinated by the German Committee for Mathematical Modeling, Simulation and Optimization (KoMSO). This publication aims at comparing the state of the art at the intersection of mathematics and industry, as well as the demands for future development of science and technology in Germany and beyond. Each contribution addresses the importance of mathematics in innovation by means of introducing a successful cooperation with an industrial partner in order to display the wide range of industrial sectors where the use of mathematics is the crucial factor for success, but also show the variety of mathematical areas involved in these activities. The success stories introduced in this volume will be supplemented by appropriate illustrations. Digital human modeling (DHM) is an active field of research directed towards the goal of creating detailed digital models of the human body and its functions, as well as assessment methods for evaluating human interaction with products and production systems. These have many applications in ergonomics, design and engineering, in fields as diverse as the automotive industry and medicine. This book presents the proceedings of the 6th International Digital Human Modeling Symposium (DHM2020), held in Skövde, Sweden from 31 August to 2 September 2020. The conference was also accessible online for those unable to attend in person because of restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
